AI Jobs in Pakistan 2026: Salaries, Skills, and Where to Apply

The AI Job Market in Pakistan: What the Data Actually Shows

Pakistan's AI job market in 2026 is real, growing, and significantly undersupplied with qualified candidates. But it is also fragmented — the best opportunities are not always where people look, the salary data circulated on social media is often outdated or cherry-picked, and the skills most in demand are not necessarily what universities are teaching. This guide is based on current listings on Rozee.pk, Mustakbil, LinkedIn, and Upwork data as of March 2026.

Domestic Employment: Software House and Startup Salaries

Pakistan's software house ecosystem — concentrated in Lahore's Arfa Software Technology Park, Karachi's Korangi and I.I. Chundrigar technology clusters, and Islamabad's F-10 tech belt — is actively hiring for AI roles. Here is the current salary landscape:

  • AI/ML Engineer (entry level, 0–2 years): PKR 80,000–150,000/month. Required: Python, PyTorch or TensorFlow basics, ability to fine-tune or deploy pre-trained models. Common hiring companies: Systems Limited, Folio3, 10Pearls, Arbisoft.
  • AI/ML Engineer (mid-level, 3–5 years): PKR 200,000–400,000/month. Required: production ML deployment, MLOps experience, RAG systems, LLM fine-tuning. Growing demand from fintech (Meezan Bank tech arm, SadaPay, NayaPay) and e-commerce (Daraz, TCS tech).
  • Prompt Engineer / AI Product Specialist: PKR 100,000–200,000/month. This role is new and many companies do not know what to call it yet. Responsibilities: designing AI system prompts, evaluating LLM outputs, building internal AI tool workflows. Hired primarily by agencies and SaaS companies with AI-assisted products.
  • Data Scientist: PKR 120,000–300,000/month depending on specialization. Demand highest in banking (analytics), telecom (churn prediction), and retail (demand forecasting). A saturated market at junior level but strong demand at senior level with real model deployment experience.
  • AI Product Manager: PKR 200,000–450,000/month. Extremely undersupplied. Requires a combination of business acumen, technical AI literacy, and product management experience. Most companies are struggling to find people who can bridge engineering and business for AI product development.

Freelancing: The Higher-Ceiling Path

For Pakistani AI professionals, international freelancing via Upwork and Toptal typically offers significantly higher income than domestic employment — the exchange rate creates a structural advantage. Here is what Pakistani AI freelancers are earning in USD as of March 2026:

  • AI Chatbot Development: $500–3,000 per project. High demand, commoditizing quickly. Differentiation: industry specialization (e-commerce bots, healthcare triage bots, real estate lead qualification bots).
  • LLM Fine-Tuning / RAG System Development: $1,500–8,000 per project. Lower volume but much higher margins. Requires genuine Python + ML skills. Less competition from no-code freelancers.
  • AI Automation (n8n, Make, Zapier with AI nodes): $300–2,000 per project. Fast-growing category. Pakistani freelancers with strong n8n skills are winning against Western competition on quality and price.
  • Prompt Engineering / AI Consulting: $25–80/hour. Growing hourly market. Best positioned: freelancers who specialize in a vertical (legal, real estate, e-commerce) rather than generalists.
  • AI Content + SEO: $5–30/hour. Highly commoditized. Only viable as part of a broader service bundle.

The Skills That Command the Highest PKR in 2026

Based on job listing analysis across Rozee.pk, LinkedIn Pakistan, and Upwork, these are the specific skills attached to the highest compensation packages:

  1. RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) system architecture: Building AI systems that connect to custom knowledge bases via vector databases (Pinecone, Chroma, Weaviate). High demand, low supply in Pakistan. Adding this to your profile can move domestic salary from PKR 150K to PKR 300K+.
  2. MLOps and model deployment: Taking trained models to production on AWS, GCP, or Azure. The ML-to-production gap is enormous in Pakistan. Companies have data scientists who build models that never get deployed. The person who can close this gap earns a premium.
  3. LLM Orchestration (LangChain, LlamaIndex): Building multi-step AI agent systems using orchestration frameworks. Growing demand from product companies building AI-native applications.
  4. AI evaluation and red-teaming: Systematically testing AI systems for failure modes, bias, and safety issues. Emerging specialty with very few qualified practitioners in Pakistan.
  5. Computer Vision (production applications): Real-time object detection, medical imaging, retail shelf analysis. High-value vertical applications with minimal competition from generalist AI engineers.

Where to Apply: The Full Stack

Do not limit your job search to a single channel. The Pakistani AI job market is fragmented and different channels surface different opportunities:

  • Rozee.pk and Mustakbil: Best for domestic software house roles and corporate positions. Search "AI Engineer," "Machine Learning Engineer," "NLP Engineer," "AI Product Manager."
  • LinkedIn Pakistan: Best for startup roles and companies with international connections. Follow Pakistan's top AI companies: Contour Software, Folio3 AI, Systems Limited, Xavor, and the growing cohort of AI-first startups in Karachi and Lahore.
  • Upwork: Best for freelancing income. Build your profile with 2–3 portfolio projects before applying. Completion rate and reviews matter more than your hourly rate in the first 90 days.
  • GitHub profile: Often overlooked but increasingly used by Pakistani tech hiring managers for technical screening. Active GitHub with AI project repositories is a strong differentiating signal.

Building the Skills Stack That Opens These Doors

The gap between where most Pakistani graduates are and where AI employers want them is bridgeable in 6–12 months of focused effort. The most efficient path: Python proficiency → AI API integration → one production deployment project → one specialized domain (RAG, MLOps, computer vision, or NLP). The AI Freelancers Course maps the freelancing track, while the Learning Paths page has curated tracks for employment-focused learners targeting specific roles. The market is waiting for qualified candidates. Be one.
