Course outline

Fast assembly in CapCut means making decisions in a dependable order—not throwing every generated clip onto a timeline. Use voice first, visuals cut to meaning, text, then sound effects and music.

By the end, you will have a 45–60 second rough cut and an asset manifest for replacing temporary clips without rebuilding the edit. Confirm feature locations in CapCut's current official guide before client work.

// concept

Import an Edit-Ready Source Pack

Copy approved files from Downloads into one local project folder and leave them there until delivery; moved media can go offline.

On Desktop, open New project, then use Media → Local → Import or drag files into the Media panel. On Mobile, use New project → select media → Add; add audio through Audio → Sounds/Your sounds → From device, or the current equivalent. If an item is missing, check the album category and storage permission before converting it.

Record every item in a manifest. Replaceable means a slate or draft asset stands in now while its row defines the final replacement.

Start filenames with short IDs so Media, the manifest, and the timeline match. Mark an AI generation “approved” only after checking content and usage rights.

Build the Timeline From Voice, Not Visuals

Drag the approved narration onto the timeline first. Expand its waveform and mark changes in meaning: hook, problem, demonstration, proof, and call to action. Use the timeline's marker control or installed shortcut; on Mobile, move the playhead to each beat and mark it, or record its timecode in the manifest.

Then assemble in this production order:

  1. Voice: lock the duration and remove only genuinely accidental silence.
  2. Visuals: add clips to the video track, move the playhead to a voice beat, select a clip, and choose Split (currently Ctrl+B on Windows or Cmd+B on macOS). Trim edges to the spoken phrase.
  3. Text: add only the product name, critical label, or call to action through Text → Add text. Leave caption styling for lesson 6.2.
  4. SFX/music: add these after the visual story works silently. They must not decide the rough-cut timing.

Text and overlays sit above the main visual; audio tracks appear below. Mute music while judging voice-to-image fit.

// concept

Use Three Passes and Replaceable Placeholders

The rough-cut pass asks whether the correct idea is visible at each voice beat. Use hard cuts, no transitions, one text style, and placeholders. Make one through Text → Add text over a plain color card: V02 — CLOSE-UP / 6s / VERTICAL. Set its exact duration so the replacement fits.

The tighten pass removes duplicate meaning. If a generated take has two usable seconds, split around them rather than forcing in the failed remainder.

The polish pass follows structural approval: captions, music, effects, color, and audio balance. Do not style a section the client may remove.

CapCut's help currently describes formal replaceable material clips for shared templates on Web and Mobile, but not Desktop; verify current availability. On Desktop, use the timed slate and manifest: insert the approved asset at the same in/out points, check framing, then delete the slate.

// concept

Keep Weak Hardware Moving and Export Deliberately

For choppy Desktop playback, open Menu → Settings → Performance → Proxy and enable it if available. It is a lighter preview, not a source replacement. Judge sharpness from a short export and disable Proxy before diagnosing quality. Close heavy apps and edit locally.

Duplicate before structural revisions: daraz-short_v01_rough, v02_client-notes, v03_approved. A re-imported MP4 has flattened tracks, so it is not an editable backup.

Use Export at the top right on Desktop; on Mobile, tap the resolution label beside Export before rendering. These are practical starting presets, not permanent platform rules:

Match source frame rate unless the brief says otherwise; do not turn 25 fps into 60 fps without a reason. Free/Pro choices, watermark behaviour, codecs, and resolutions vary by device, region, version, and plan—verify the Export screen and official help.

// worked_example

Worked Example

The bad first timeline held the packshot for 12 seconds, showed the demonstration while the voice described packaging, and ignored a missing close-up. Placing VO1 first produced this map:

// prompt — copy me5 lines
00:00–00:04  VO hook       V01 packshot
00:04–00:18 problem phone clip: packaging/use context
00:18–00:24  key detail    V02 timed placeholder: CLOSE-UP / 6s
00:24–00:43 demonstration V03 use demo, split at 00:34 for second angle
00:43–00:52 CTA packshot crop + approved CTA text

At 00:18, the editor adds the placeholder and splits it at 00:24. The manifest requests a vertical six-second close-up with no baked-in text. The 720p WhatsApp review is daraz-short_v01_rough_720p.mp4; the replacement can later fill the same slot without shifting the voice or CTA.

Failure Cases to Diagnose

6 cases to diagnose

  • Everything imports as `final.mp4`

    approvals become untraceable. Rename files with IDs and versions.

  • Pictures change on music beats but contradict the narration

    mute music, restore the voice-first markers, and cut visuals to spoken ideas.

  • Replacing one missing shot shifts the entire edit

    the placeholder had no fixed in/out points. Rebuild it to the required duration and record that duration in the manifest.

  • Preview looks blurry

    Proxy may be lowering preview quality. Inspect a short export before sharpening or replacing good source media.

  • Playback stutters after effects

    disable polish layers, enable Proxy, close other apps, and work from local media.

  • The export is soft or wrongly framed

    confirm canvas aspect ratio, source resolution, Export resolution, and bitrate; do not expect 4K export to create detail absent from a 720p source.

During load-shedding, keep the CapCut project and media on local storage, duplicate before risky edits, and copy to a USB drive. Use 720p WhatsApp reviews; queue the 1080p final export and upload for a stable electricity/broadband window.

For Roman-Urdu client videos, name files with plain Latin characters so they move reliably between Android, Windows, and shared links, but preserve approved Urdu script in a UTF-8 text file. Never put a customer's phone number, CNIC image, private WhatsApp chat, or unblurred order screen into a placeholder or cloud project. If a USD-priced Pro feature appears necessary, first test whether hard cuts, manual text, and the free export options complete the brief; verify the current PKR cost and payment method before committing the client.

// hands_on

Hands-On Exercise

6 steps

Build one 45–60 second rough cut from assets you own or may use.

  1. Create the five-folder source pack and rename at least four assets with VO, V, or M IDs.

  2. Write a manifest with file, role/timecode, rights status, and replaceable status for every asset.

  3. Import the pack into a new CapCut project and place the approved voice track first.

  4. Mark four or five spoken beats, then cut visuals to those beats using Split and edge trims.

  5. Add one six-second timed placeholder and describe its replacement requirement in the manifest.

  6. Duplicate the project as v01_rough, then export a 720p review copy in the correct aspect ratio. “Done” means the rough cut plays for 45–60 seconds, every spoken idea has a relevant visual or labelled placeholder, and another editor could replace the placeholder using only the manifest.

    Your work shows this failure mode: “Everything imports as `final.mp4`.” The lesson describes it like this: “Approvals become untraceable.” What does the lesson tell you to do about it?
