A Canva brand system combines fixed design rules with reusable master layouts. The headline, image, and call to action change; the logo, colours, type hierarchy, and spacing do not.

By the end, you will have three Canva masters—a square post, a carousel cover-and-inner-page set, and a story—plus a one-page specification sheet and one filled example of each format.

Set Up One Brand Source

Record exact values instead of “use our usual blue” or “make the logo small.” This sample is a starting point, not a universal standard:

On Canva’s desktop home screen, open Brand in the left panel, create or select a Brand Kit, then add the colours, fonts, and logo variations your plan permits. Canva’s current pricing page lists limited Brand Kit access on Free and broader allowances on paid plans. Feature gates change: check that page and your account before calling a control “free” or “Pro.”

If a control is unavailable, create 00_BRAND_REFERENCE_DO_NOT_EDIT with colour hex codes, type samples, spacing unit, approved logo, and logo rule. Duplicate it into new files. This Free-account workaround preserves the decisions without claiming a paid feature.

Only upload assets you own or may use. A public template does not grant permission to copy another brand’s logo, photos, illustrations, or wording.

Build Three Masters With Stable and Swappable Zones

Use Canva’s Instagram Post (Square), Instagram Post (Portrait), and Instagram Story presets. Confirm the current preset and platform safe zones because publishing surfaces change.

Use File > Show Rulers and Guides where present, or Canva’s documented Shift + R shortcut. Set a 72 px internal margin on a 1080 px-wide page—your working rule, not Canva’s. Use Position and Tidy up to align repeated elements.

Select stable elements and use the floating toolbar’s lock control; Canva also documents a lock-element shortcut. If locking or governed Brand Templates are unavailable, keep the master untouched and duplicate before every job.

Create MASTER_SQUARE, MASTER_CAROUSEL, and MASTER_STORY. The carousel needs cover, inner, and end pages; duplicate the inner page as needed. Label editable boxes [HOOK—MAX 7 WORDS], [BODY—MAX 32 WORDS], and [CTA—MAX 20 CHARACTERS].

Test the System at Phone Size

On a 1080 px canvas, start testing at 80–96 px for a short headline, 40–52 px for support, and 32–40 px for carousel body copy. These are test values, not platform rules. Do not solve overflow by breaking your spec’s minimum size.

Run three checks:

Fill every zone with the longest permitted copy, not “Lorem ipsum.”
Export a draft PNG; inspect it at feed size on a phone and after WhatsApp compression.
Run Canva’s Design Accessibility tool for contrast, typography, and alt-text issues. If its menu moved, search Canva Help for using design accessibility.

For Urdu, test آرڈر کی آخری تاریخ جمعہ ہے۔ Check joined letters, punctuation, line height, and the export. Nastaliq may need more vertical space than Latin text. If it clips or looks dense on a phone, use and record an Urdu-capable fallback; do not silently switch to Roman Urdu.

The carousel copy overflows, so the creator replaces a longer sentence with the shorter sample above instead of shrinking type. On a small Android phone, 32 px body text is hard to read; they raise it to 38 px and update both master and spec.

Logo drift
corner or size changes. Apply one placement rule, then lock it or protect the master.
Headline overflow
text touches a guide or covers the subject. Enforce the line cap; shorten before shrinking.
Fake consistency
colours match but spacing and hierarchy do not. Apply the spacing unit and named text styles.
Carousel collapse
one unusually long inner page uses tiny type. Split the idea across two pages or edit it to the 32-word body limit.
Story UI collision
controls may cover the CTA. Check current safe-zone guidance and move it inside guides.
Urdu export damage
letters clip or Nastaliq line height collapses. Test the export and use the recorded fallback.

Test on a low-cost Android phone: laptop-sized text may fail in WhatsApp Status or after compression. Use a small review export, then download the final file after approval. During load-shedding or unstable data, draft copy and filenames in a local note; do not assume Canva or an advertised offline feature works without checking your account and the official plan page.

Prices, taxes, plan names, and payment acceptance change; a Pakistani-issued card may fail for an international subscription. Verify current PKR cost, exchange rate, and bank fees. Never share a card OTP, CNIC image, or banking screenshot. If payment fails, use the reference card and clean masters with the features currently available on Free.

Test Nastaliq on the phone and format used by your Karachi, Lahore, or KPK audience; regional language preferences differ. Get specific permission before putting a customer face, WhatsApp message, or home-business location in a reusable master.
